With the rapid rise of electric cars, vehicle maintenance has evolved. Your Chrysler EV’s battery needs to be carefully maintained, though you’ll be glad to hear that this is generally far easier than upkeeping an internal combustion engine. Below are some essential Chrysler EV maintenance guidelines, some of which are the same as for any other type of car. Your closest Chrysler dealer will be happy to provide all the services your vehicle requires.

Keep Your Battery Cool

EV batteries generate heat while operating and must be kept cool at all times. The cooling system circulates liquid coolant, drawing heat away from the battery. It’s important to have this coolant inspected every six months, and you’ll need to have it flushed every two or three years. During summer, you should also keep your car out of direct sunlight; parking in cool, shaded places is ideal.

Protect Your Car From the Cold

Extreme cold can also harm an EV’s battery, accelerating its deterioration. During winter, it’s advisable to park in a garage or at least use an insulated car cover, which will also protect your car’s bodywork and other parts from the cold.

Slow Charging Works Best

The battery in your EV can be expected to last 12 to 15 years if well-kept. But various habits can shorten this lifespan, one of which is the overuse of fast chargers. While rapid charging is handy on occasion, it’s best to rely on gentler, more sedate 120 or 240-volt power sources for everyday charging.

Neither Deplete Nor Overcharge Your Battery

Both fully depleting and filling up an EV’s battery can cause it to degrade more rapidly. The sweet spot for optimal battery longevity tends to be between 20 and 80 percent charged. Try to stay within this range.

Protect the Brakes From Wear and Tear

The quiet power and impressive acceleration that your EV generates must be balanced out with firm brakes. Always keep an eye out for signs of worn-out brake pads or other brake trouble. It’s also wise to have your brakes examined at least twice a year. The brake fluid needs to be periodically inspected and flushed.
