Number of Reasons an Engine May be Overheating

Being able to identify the cause of the engine overheating can go a long way in making the repair or getting the car to the service station.

If the radiator cap is missing or not tight, it will cause the cooling system to overheat when coolant escapes. If a belt is failing, the water pump will be unable to move the coolant to the parts of the engine that need cooling. A leaking radiator hose could be close to bursting, or it might just be that the hose clamps are loose or badly corroded.

On a more serious note, if the water pump is dripping coolant, the inner bearing may have failed, and the pump is no longer able to move the coolant to the moving parts of the engine. This is a big job that needs to be brought to Courtesy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
